It's redolent of the House of Lords. You can't refer to it by name in the Commons - it's called The Other Place. FB is Another Place for us.

If FB broke, I'd die. Please tell me that Facebook will last forever!

I know there's email, but it's not not not the same. FB is a highly sophisticated way to indulge in image laden communication, and all the while you're messaging the right side of the screen shows randomly picked photographs from their albums, this, coupled with the fact that the written word is more considered, more expressive, and more capable of sharing links than oral communication means that FB messaging is superior to face to face conversation. Discuss.

Plus on Another Place I can strictly control my privacy settings so I only see/hear from people I choose to! It avoids all the inane ramblings of open sites. :wink:

That's a very good point Robin, and I hope you feel better soon too. Thinking about it, I suppose FB is only as interesting as the people who use it. I wish my brother would use it, and some of my other close friends, separated by distance. This Christmas he sent out a piece of paper with a printed image of my niece and nephew, and 3 sentences of update on their lives. How lovely it would be if instead of this tiny fragment I could have a weekly or monthly progressing album of the children, that all his friends could see and comment on - how much more I'd know of his life, and how much closer I'd feel to those children if that were the case. And with the messaging there's really nothing like the visual reminder of where someone went, what they wore, what interested them - especially if the photography was good.

We know a lovely young couple who have started a blog that charts the progress of their (now 8-month-old) daughter. They upload a photograph every day.

Joce, it's nice to hear someone pleading the benefits of FB for once, rather than rubbishing it. FB does have its place, and I love it for enabling me to keep in touch with the lives of old friends I never get to see in person, and vice versa.

Mrs FF has never been overly maternal and certainly not in the 'goo-goo-gah-gah' way whenever a small baby comes within range. A previous neighbour of ours was (probably still is) a 'family psychologist' or something like that and used to remark that we were bringing up the one and only FF junior as a second or third child. What dreadful parents we must be. :lol:

According to young Miss P (or Mrs M, as she's otherwise known), when she was at Oxford, Cambridge University was always referred to as "The Fenland Polytechnic".
