Most insurance companies would prefer to have the house occupied rather than empty. I have already spoken with my insurers and they have confirmed that they are happy with the arrangements and will not require an increase to premiums.

As for the veg patch - you can specify a requirement for 'plant care' where the exchangers will tend plants....but we also have a gardener who should be able to keep on top of things for a couple of weeks.

It seems like a good idea to start a house swap group here.

As most people live in properties that shall we say have their own quirks it would be an ideal way to find a housesitter with a similar outlook!

I love the idea of an overseas guest living here for a bit and me teaching them English -but would they really want to live in building site conditions, bathe infrequently in yellow rainwater, have no TV, and help out with paint stripping? I think they'd run away after half a day!

Try help exchange http://www.helpx.net/ You provide bed and food they provide 25-30 hours labour per week. Great scheme. We use it a lot.

Thanks Biff. I'd like a trained masseur who makes a brilliant breakfast and can discuss Shopenhauer. They should be able to wield an axe, light fires and check over a hen for bumblefoot and impacted crop. Experience in the sexing of chicks, topiary and lime plastering also necessary.
