Period Presents - What did you get?

Running gear, some New & Lingwood shirts and some books on drawing mostly.

I bought these Georgian earrings for my wife as an anniversary present just before Christmas.

That's the type of stone Mrs DJH likes...luckily she's away in the UK at the moment so won't catch sight of these...ever

We also got central heating but that was not really a present as I had to work pretty hard for that one.

I'm surprised that your distant cousins, the reindeer, didn't help you out with that job.

Ha ha yes, it came with instructions which featured on the first page a picture of a stick man holding a screwdriver; on the second page a picture of a stick man having to climb back out of the loft unable to find his screwdriver; on the third page a picture of a stick man putting the kettle on again, and forgetting what he was supposed to be doing anyway.
My reindeer friends have been rather busy lately, and difficult to get hold of for some reason. My neighbours (a buffalo and an antelope) came round but declined to offer any help, and my giraffe friend was unfortunately unable to do any more than put her head through the hole.

It sounds to me as though you need some new friends. Mrs P often comments that my work looks as though it was done by a chimpanzee - would I do?

I asked my daughter if her husband would appreciate me getting him a new lawn for their small garden or if he may prefer astroturf, she said the best thing to do would be to ask him. I did, and after a couple of drinks dropped the question and asked him if he preferred grass or astroturf for his Xmas present. His answer ?- " I prefer grass, I've never smoked astroturf before" ( :wink: )

Well, I'm coming late to this, but only because I've just finished eating my star present of the festive season. A jar of home made bacon jam (yes, it does exactly what it says on the label), prepared by our very own Joce, who can turn her hand to the future of condiments just as easily as she can to an embroidered tent room. Mmmmmmmm. Google for a recipe, lay in a supply of cheesy biscuits, and prepare to be astonished.

Good Lord Penners, how have you ever got any building work done? I'm powered almost exclusively by tea when I'm working, and most builders seem have a similar affliction. Without tea I would have accomplished far less than the meagre & inadequate progress that I have actually made. Now there's a recommendation for a beverage if ever I heard one.

Coffee, Feltwell... coffee! And I don't mean yer instant muck. I mean proper, full-strength, espresso-machine, kick-you-in-the-arse nectar.

That's my rocket fuel.

Each to their own eh Penners? I can't stand coffee - even the smell of it puts me off.

Mind you, I reckon most of us are in a declining majority, if that makes sense. The vast majority of the "yoof" (*) at my workplace don't drink any kind of hot drink, they all seem to be addicted to energy drinks, I need shares in Red Bull.

Going out with my team, the vast majority of whom are younger than me, on an incredibly busy Friday night in a town centre just before Christmas was an education - I felt like such an old bloke stood there with my pint of bitter, whilst they're all knocking back shots of Sambuca, Jagerbombs, bottles of Desperados, and various lethal vodka-based drinks that I had never heard of.


* - "Yoof" - anyone below the age of 30. Oh how one's definition of youth changes as one gets older and more decrepit......

Big mug of hot chocolate at ten o'clock for me then coffee until three thirty and tea from then on until Ovaltine time...

Oh, and I had handkerchiefs from Santa as well...

Very similar - but I used this one this time around, which has a bit more complexity with the ketchup and booze. Actually I substituted spiced rum for Bourbon as that's what I had in the cellar, but it seemed to work out OK, nice praise from Gareth anyway Let me know how the Martha S recipe goes.

Calm yourself, oh stripey one!

I think you'll find that I invariably talked about a Kit-Kat and a cuppa. The implication being that said chocolate confection could accompany one of a variety of hot beverages. So your choice of liquid refreshment is entirely up to you.

Now... just think calm thoughts, breathe deeply, take the weight off your hooves and partake of the abovementioned. You'll soon feel better.
