Period Garden Wall Coping

Looks really good. Speed isn't everything in brickwork, getting it right is more important.
Unfortunately in brickwork too much emphasis is put on speed.

It's been a while since I visited this thread. What a great looking wall! You must be very pleased with the outcome even if progress has been a bit slower than you expected. I'm following this with some interest as we have a lot of old garden walls to rebuild.

I'm glad I used the plinth bricks and half round copping. They transformed the wall. People don't tend to use them now because they are very expensive, but these were cheap after keeping an eye on Facebook marketplace for a year.

I've finished the long stretch so it looks finished from the main road, but the little bit at the back will be a project for next spring.

The details finish it off nicely Malcolm. I think in our case I will be fitting some sandstone copings but there is a brick used elsewhere in the garden walls that has a rounded corner. Whether I can find something similar before I start building, I don't know. Cawardens is a big reclamation yard in the midlands that always has a good stock of bricks but they're also rather pricey. The 'new' front wall is going to need around 3000 bricks...

I had a busy year and I only finished the garden wall over the last couple of weeks. It looks weird now - I'm used to having a big gap at the back. I've blogged the whole thing on https://www.the-salutation.co.uk/blog/category/garden-wall/?orderby=ID&order=ASC It'll weather down a bit and blend in over the next couple of hundred years.

It's physical lugging bricks around and I'm out of practice. So tired!

Ok, I'm about a year late in replying - I know Cawardens well, great selection but stupidly expensive. Go up a bit to Stoke and places like Gardiners were always much cheaper - I bought a whole artic load of reclaim bricks from them when I did my garage, got a good deal.
