A plea to chicken owners - How do you stop their water freezing? I've tried wrapping the water holder in fleece and have searched on the web for a chicken water heater but no luck. what do you do?

Aquarium heater?

Actually when we had chooks in a cold climate, we just gave them fresh hot water when we let them out and fed them in the morning and served a warm, wet mash with a little curry powder in it.

That's what we do with ours - well, without the curry powder . . . or the aquarium heater - but we feed them the warm mash at lunchtime.

I haven't tried it! And it requires an extension lead unless your lucky hens have electricity. My thinking is that if it's so cold the water is freezing every couple of hours then the birds themselves need a radiator, and regular checking, and food and water not too far from that radiator. I just bought 2 smaller oil filled rads at B&Q for them. But then I have my hens in great big sheds on an exposed hill top and neither of those are ideal.
