Apparently, a tun of wine is about 954 litres, so nearly a tonne. It's the equivalent of 8 barrels, 4 hogsheads or two butts...
Since a gallon of beer is, for some reason, different from a gallon of wine, a tun of beer is 1310 litres, whilst a tun of ale is 1164 litres. Confused, anyone?
