Do you have any other examples of slate with fossils ? I

Slate fossils are pretty rare it seems after your question got me trawling across the net. Large ones are even rarer... They do exist however: http://www.fossilmuseum.net/Fossil_Sites/Bundenbach/Bundenbach.htm

I wonder whether those aren't fossils but rather inclusions or xenoliths in the slate (i.e. another peice of rock trapped in the strata as the slate was formed)?

Sighs with envy......... What a beautiful surround.

We have at least 8 fireplaces here and only 1 of them works which i believe is an inglenook wth a stove slapped in the front of it and covered up. The rest are capped and don't even have hearths, just a couple of tiles stuck down on top of floorboards, which are mainly covered in carpet.

So much uncoverng to do! More work ahead!
