Actually, 'Marm, I'm not a fan (boom-boom!) of humidistat controllers on bathroom extractors, in normal circumstances.

Well, I'll tell you.

First, a humidistat switches on the fan only when the humidity in the room reaches a pre-set level. Why not have a fan that runs before that level is reached, thereby preventing the level from ever being reached?

Secondly, not everything that you want to remove from a bathroom atmosphere is humidity. There is also the matter of, ahem, malodour.

I accept that a run-on fan on the lighting circuit may, from time to time, run when it's not strictly required, but this represents a very small proportion of its overall function, and I believe that the improved atmosphere in the room that it provides more than offsets this minute disadvantage.

Aah! There, there... of course you can make table leg ruffles, love. Don't you worry your pretty little head about those ruffty-tuffty extractor fans.

Just be sure that you finish the washing up first. And there's probably some ironing that still needs doing.

I have finished all my chores today and am making husband ickle herb garden. Bit sad to only find lemon thyme in the garden centre, not dear husband's favourite variety - bit washing-up liquidy tasting.

Never mind, can alter taste with smidge of laburnum. :twisted:

Was kind of my point - surely what you want is a fan that comes on with the light (so is used most cold days with the shower) and then overruns for a couple of minutes (to deal with smells) but if the humidity remains high then it keeps running until the room is drier?
If your fan overrunning is annoying you then you need a better, quieter fan or a better location. Since I replaced a noisy overhead fan for an inline one in the loft things have been much nicer.

FWIW I didn't realise you should also wrap insulation around the ducting to reduce condensation in the duct - makes sense when you think about it. The bats are in the loft now so I won't be doing that until autumn.
