old oak beams

We have just shot-blasted some very old oak beams in our house to remove the horrible dark stain and varnish that had been painted on over the years. T he results are great but now the beams,although a wonderful colour, look very dry and obviously need something to a)seal in any residual dust and b)to bring the colour to life. We don t want anything like a shiny varnish but we do need some sort of cover. They are in an upstairs bedroom. If anyone could help with advice, we would be very grateful.

if it was me i'd start oiling it and keep doing it until you have a nice protection. you can keep oiling it every time it needs a drink

Hi,

For me a coating of Sanding Sealer and then wax worked a treat and brought the wood back to life.

I think I have posted links to a company that sells sanding sealer further down the site.
