This year's outside project is to rebuild a section of garden wall. It's not really a job I've been looking forward to but I can't put it off forever. I first posted about the walls back in 2021...

I'm interested in a few opinions on how best to proceed. The professionals (structural engineer and a couple of experienced brickies) haven't been much help in deciding whether rebuilding or repair is best. The lean and wobble in the wall have pushed me in the rebuild direction.
I've not come across many similar projects here. Malcolm rebuilt a wall a few years ago but not seen anything similar. The originals are just built on spread footings. I plan to rebuild on the existing footings which look to be OK - a similar approach was taken by the previous owner some years ago on the right hand side of the arch... Are there many risks to this approach ie not pouring a new foundation? I am conscious of the trees growing close to the wall.
It's a total of around 4600 bricks plus arch, pillars and capping. I have sourced around 600 replacement bricks - hard to tell how many will be needed until the wall is dismantled and how many can be turned and reused. I'm banking on saving a lot.
One of the main learning points will be how long this takes. How many bricks I can lay each day - I'm not aiming too high. I'm hoping 120 will be achievable.
Looking at a 3:1 sharp sand:NHL3. 5 lime mix. Our local sand is a bit grey so I have started using one part of white sand for a lighter finish.
Any thoughts on the project much appreciated. The demolition of the wall starts after Easter!
