I've seen this featured in the East Anglian Daily Times. I'm sure this is the one they claim has actually appeared on a Cadbury's tin.

It's odd that it's been on the market for so long. The timber frame is fantastic for a house of that size. Their rafters are bigger than our studs! It makes you wonder if at one time it was actually a larger house, particularly when you look at the fireplaces and by the way that one side of the house stops so abruptly.

Ah, that's very useful, thanks for that. Picture 3 is just the kind of thing I am going to try to achieve with mine - are those pamments? If so, that's very useful to see how that looks - pamments, huge brick inglenook, exposed beams, limewashed walls.

I nearly wet myself Gareth. That is so true. But you do get a crappy old outside table and chairs thrown in , so you can sit outside and listen to the traffic just to remind your self what century you live in.

I suppose in its defence it's not actually on the A140 and is set back in what looks like a quiet little hamlet (assuming you can ignore the drone of the traffic on a busy day). The problem is that the choices of roads to anywhere quickly are somewhat limited to the A140

On the odd occassion we go to Norwich I prefer to drive to Ipswich and let the train take the strain. I agree (apart from a garage that has a great showroom of supercars in a village I can't recall the name of) the A140 is suicide alley.

Its 45mph monotony was only punctured by the need to put a series of roundabouts in that appeared to interdigitate with cart tracks running into the pine forest. I suspect there were escape routes for people driven insane by the tedium.

The destination itself, I am told, is rather nice. I only went (intentionally) as far as the new hospital.

Oh, don't miss the north Norfolk coast just for that. It's worth every minute of the drive, once you get there. North of Norwich the A140 isn't so bad.

The coast road (A149) isn't so great between Cromer and Sheringham, so I always turn off left towards Sheringham when I get to Roughton. Then cut across to Sheringham and meander westwards along the A149. It's gorgeous!

One word of warning - last time I was up there (a few weeks ago) the main street in Cley was closed for roadworks, and the diversion is rather long. You might want to check that this work is now finished.

That doesn't sound like the A140 to me, FW. It doesn't do much interdigitatigtigdating with pine forests. I reckon you were approaching from the south-west through Thetford Forest. Possibly along the notorious A11.

But yes, Norwich is definitely worth the trip.

Yes - I've just looked on Google Maps. I was coming from Croydon (it was a tour of hospitals I was undertaking), so imagine it was the A11 I was on.

"Never-ending" is almost a justifiable soubriquet for the A11, but I could never describe as "hateful" any road that comes away from Croydon.

Thanks Penners. We have been there before and it is definitely a place you dont want to leave. Holkam beach is almost magical and it's forever tempting you to keep on walking. Just watch the razor clams in bare feet. We were looking to treat ourselves to 2 nights at the Byfords Posh B&B in Holt but ended up booking our usual haunt in Ambleside, Cumbria for 7 nights at the same price!!

Some time ago when I built and installed a staircase in our last house, a neighbour asked to see it. I showed it to him and we walked up it. Halfway up I turned around and said flippantly, "Look, it works coming down, too!".

He looked puzzled and replied quite seriously, "But don't they all?"
