When the eggs hatch (which can take around 16 hours as far as I'm aware) any unhatched are left to go cold. The only way they'd hatch is if a surrogate duck came and sat on them, which isn't really in their nature.
So either a) not all ducks have been on all excursions b) You have so many lakes, and so many families of ducks, you've lost track. I suspect the latter- all testimony to the paradise of your grounds!
The only way to be certain is to drop everything and just follow them round.
I'm gutted that it looks like I'll be de-brooding my Sukey tomorrow, she's still sat on eggs but nothing's happening. We're at the end of Week 5 of broodiness, and I think she's too thin and under the weather to be allowed to continue with it. It's not easy to de-brood a fixated hen, either she'll have to be separated, dunked in cold water, or not allowed to get comfy for a day or so. Her eggs will have to be destroyed. It's terribly hard, as they might all hatch on Monday, but we have to have a cut-off point, because Sukey is the kind of girl who'll sit on eggs until she fades away. Most likely another brood that's hatched and jusat latched onto your first one. We had two lots of two mothers rearing two quite large broods last year, which meant they could have some quite alone time

Don't be such a cheapskate, and cramp your ducks up in one of those boxes. Take a lesson from Hull, where the ducks have Victorian terraces, gardens and cars to play with.

I see the infamous Sir Peter Vigger's Duck Island appears on there as well, at £2200 !!! I also notice that the news section of the website contains no reference to that story :lol:
If it came out of his own pocket you could just claim that he obviously has considerably more money than sense (and taste, come to that). The fact that he tried to claim it as a legitimate living expense is unbelieveable. I genuinely have sympathy for all the MP's who have been tainted by those (of all parties) who tried to take advantage of the system.

I agree, those prices are rather astonishing. A decent garden shed is only £4-500 and is a gazillion times bigger.
I reckon I could make a suitable duck house for £50 - and that would be buying all the materials new. I could probably manage quite well with all my offcuts lying around the place!
As for MPs claiming them on expenses . . . . don't get me started!

I have a couple of Call Ducks who live in this little house, although unless its very very cold (in which case they are brought into the house) their door is never closed and they happily spend the night tucked up under a shrub.View attachment 1
During the winter when their paddling water kept freezing over we had to share our bath with them!

Mine have spent the day watching me break my back decorating the room which used to be full of Dry Rot.
It now has an insulated ceiling & French doors instead of fossilised wasp nests & a Bay window. The boys 'Tom & Jerry' like to flirt with their own reflections in the glass doors! They've managed to bring a smile to my face plenty of times over the last few months when everything else was dragging me down.
I can highly recommend Ducks for every house!
