I suspected that would be the case - at least you had already considered the option. It's probably a better investment to buy the lead rather than the gin, as the leaking roof would still be there even after you had sobered up and started to worry about the roof again. :wink:

Robin - it might be sickbay from time to time.
It won't be very big at all but it needs a hexagonal bay in order to restore the perfect symmetry of the house which was lost with the 30s extension on the other side. 3 large silk curtained and shuttered sash windows (double glazed please), and a roof in an antique slate that's difficult to procure. The access to the basement kitchen that is currently there will have to be altered, which may involve the removal of a stone staircase , I haven't figured that bit out. The rainwater tank will have to be filled in and moved to accomodate it, and major alterations to the drainage of BC take place. It will necessitate the opening up of a doorway in my bedroom, and the whole thing will form a Chinoiserie bathroom/dressing room, with an appropriate Chinoiserie fireplace.http://www.westlandlondon.com/stock/chimneypiecematerial/wood/item/10229/summary.htm I might need another chimney.
The flooring will need to be old reclaimed Great Ponton flagstones with silk Chinese rugs and the bathroom fittings from Albion, hmm, Imperium plinth off this page please:

I haven't yet chosen the wardrobe, something very large please, I only have a little broom cupboard at present.

Yay! All finished today. It's so much nicer than what was there previously, though I'm still considering it as a temporary fix - pity it ended up costing £1650.

But I think he did a nice job. And how lovely not to be terrified of the rain getting on the electrics.

Marm - I hadn't thought of claiming. We already claimed a lot off NFU for the burglary, and that roof was about 25 years old and really hammered when we moved in. I wont miss the noise of it on very windy nights !
But yes, dreadfully frustrating to have to spend money on things you hadn't planned for and don't want.
