You don't need any special program. If you press the "Print Screen" button on your keyboard, a copy of your screen will be copied to your clipboard. You can then paste the image into your favourite image editing program, gimp is recommended and is free, though mickysoft paint will do. The image below was taken this way and the house has been like this (with people living in it) for at least 5 years. At least it isn't as period property - though it might turn into one before the roof is fixed...

Looks like a drug lab poorly disguised as a renovation project to me.

there didnt seem to be a lot wrong with this house from what i could see, the clay lump is badly deteriorated and its still in a scratch coat of render but it did look like lime render and its not cracking anywhere. clay lump is easy enough to sort out. i am surprised that the asking price hasn't dropped in two years so i can only assume the owners are in no rush to sell it, a cheeky offer might work though.

some people are in that position where they can wait it out but 2 years, thats really taking it easy, lol

Surely, though, it would have been easy for Msoft to have a "save image" function on Streetview/Google Maps? Perhaps it is a privacy/copyright thing.

If you run Windows 7 there's a handy little accessory called the Snipping Tool. You'll find it in the Accessories folder in your All Programs list.

You just drag a frame around any area of your screen, snip it and save it.

Sadly I'm stuck in a bygone era and running XP (Professional!) ver5.1 c2007. I suppose I should be grateful that the newer offerings such as Streetview actually run on older operating systems!

Rest assured that you're not alone. My XP PCs seem to still be working perfectly adequately and I can't imaging upgrading until the time comes to get a new PC.

Screen-grabs work fine with XP though; that's what the "Print Screen" key is for. Think of it as a "copy-the-screen-to-the-clipboard" key and then use 'paste' to copy the screen grab into your favourite application and crop to size or whatever else you want to do with it. It's also possible to 'copy' just the active window by using Alt-PrintScreen, which might avoid the need to crop, depending on what you're doing..

Actually "Print Screen" is a bad legend these days. Some old computer systems really did send the screen contents to a printer but these days it's just a 'copy' key and the application its copied to handles the physical printing (if required).

I've been using Ubuntu on an old PC for a couple of years now (600MHz P3 with 320MB RAM - i.e. prehistoric by today's standards) and it's fine for web browsing and playing music. That's the Hardy Heron release though.

For anyone tempted, the current issue of PC Pro magazine has the current version (Lucid Lynx) on a bootable cover disk - a good way to try it out without having to install anything.

I've switched entirely and don't find I miss anything from Windows. I rest easy in the knowledge that the security (both technology and level of threat) is far better. Oh and it's prettier than Windows 7 too!

The only frustration is having to return to the achingly, grindingly slow performance of my work laptop which still runs XP...
