OK then - we get rid of all these out of date railways.

What do we use instead?

Add more vastly subsidised roads, with all that infrastructure to be maintained and land swallowed up?

I only watched about 3 minutes of the live earth concert and that was a guy who was talking to Jonathon Ross and said he left his tv on when he left the house.... but it was all right because the cat was at home!!!!!

I turned it off and went outside and did some more gardening and helped to save some electricity by not having my tv on

Gosh. Will go and contemplate my navel and consider how we can get rid of railways, expand the airports and extend the use of roads. That way we can save the planet and commuting will be so much easier.
