Good to hear I've been doing the right thing!

I machine sanded to 100 so its reasonably smooth, and I have cleaned with white spirit to remove dust, but perhaps there was still some dust in the room.

I found last night that a very light buffing seems to be removing the roughness so will continue with that and see.

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who recommended the Osmo Polyx - picked some up at a local flooring place, and used it over the weekend. Floor now looks fantastic. Took the advice of the people who supplied it, and did a very thin coat first time, then more generous second coat. Didn't use the Rapid version in the end, as was advised that normal would dry enough to walk on in 4-5 hours, which it was.

Great advice on application that I though it might be useful to share - suggested using a car window de-icer/scraper - dribble a little of the oil onto the floor, use the flexible rubber part to spread it, then the foam part to mop up/spread any excess, keep a soft cloth handy for a final wipe and to work into corners/edges. I must admit I was a little cautious, but it worked a treat - particularly for doing a thin first coat.
