Yes, big improvement over the old u-pvc! The opening casement above the door* is a nice touch.

*I'd have called this a fan light, but is it still a fan light if it is not semi-circular?

I notice that the hinge pins are on the outside. When I had to break in to my own house once, I discovered that it's extremely easy to grind/knock out the pins of such hinges, and then the door just lifts out even if it's locked. When I refitted our door I added some concealed hinge bolts (you can get them in the security section of DIY sheds --- lumps of metal that stick out of the hinge edge of the door and engage with holes in the frame when the door is shut, when they are completely concealed). Could be worth doing sometime if you haven't already!

Thanks for the advice. I really do need to add this to my list of things to worry about. I was only looking at them at the weekend and it never occurred to me for one second that the hinges could be dismantled. I suppose a couple (top and bottom) should suffice. Cheers

Either use hinge bolts as Still_Adrianith says or if you haven't fitted hinges yet, use security hinges rather than normal ones - they have little prongs that engage if the pin is removed to stop the hinge being seperated.

Those security hinges look good, Feltwell - I didn't know about them. Even with the door fitted, if the security hinges fit into the same rebate as the old hinges, I reckon it would be easier and neater to fit them than the bolts. Replacing the hinges one at a time wouldn't mean taking the door off.

By the way, everyone, the reason I attacked the hinges on a door was when we bought a house and the keys to the back door were lost. The estate agent thought the door would have to be broken down, but the hinge attack was easy. I used an angle grinder to take one head of the pin off, but maybe burglars (who I always imagine as Charles Niven in the Pink Panther films) know a quieter way.
