New door tomorrow

Hello all
I am really happy about tomorrow, this nasty UPvc horrid thing that is to short, not fitted properly and in fact just ugly is going.

Gave a company this from a few doors down, this is the original set of doors that so many people took out and put a window in.

I will see them for real tomorrow, got a picture a few days ago of the progress.

Felt like posting something other than problems

Hay, well I found them via recommendation, they are an old school company been running for years.
I think when I work further on turning my outbuilding to extend the kitchen I will get them to make me some new sash windows to look perfectly like the originals. They will be deeper due to the new building regs of insulation but I can live with that.

Plastering of the wall will start from Saturday and hope to pain on Christmas Eve.

What you cannot see is the inch gap below the PVC door that the wind howles through because it was sealed with the plastic beading surround stuff and mastic.
I asked that the new doors have a bottom piece of timber so it can be sealed fully once closed.
Will post the installed picture once its put in.
I wonder how long it will take to install.

Would have thought a fairly quick job to install for a good joiner. I'm basing that on no knowledge whatsoever though.

I'm not too comfortable with either the door handle, or the position of it either, in the other door you show Seanie although I've no idea really what the right furniture should be. A rim lock perhaps?

PS I would fit a dpc on under and on the other three sides of the door if it was mine.

Yeah I'm not keen I choose a brass lock. It's some five lever thing they have to install today for security reasons I believe. I have a roll of Doc do you mean let it sit on it. I will need to screed the step outside a little to allow any water that lands on the step to run away.
Currently it runs into the house and keeps the brickwork damp.

That will look nice. I'm glad you've found a good joiner, not so many about! Are you putting the lock further down level with the lock rail rather than up the stile?? It's funny that people change the doors for windows, as people often change the windows for doors too!! I think people just like changing things for some reason and often for no reason.

I have no idea, I hope the guys will put it in line but my directive was to make them as close as possible to the picture I posted above, so they have have taken me very literally.

Yes, it may just be the picture but there is something about it that makes it look like a modern door in the original style rather than the original door... :?

Seanie - I recommend you to check your house insurance before you make your final decision about locks. It's highly likely that that your insurers will have stipulations about what locks you should use. If this is a back door, then they may require secret bolts in the door, top and bottom.

But do check - you could save yourself a lot of hassle after the doors are fitted.

Hate to say it, but although it looks good and is a huge improvement, the panel detail doesn't appear to match the detail on the neighbour's door.

no it does not but to be honest im happy anyway as its 100000% better than what was there and will actually keep some heat in
