National Chimwrap Shortage

Hi All

Haven't been around for a wee while - and seem to have missed all the fun !! - windows eh?!! - who'd have em!!

My question is quite straightforward - does anyone on site know where there is a stockist of chimwrap - who actually has some in stock
Now that we have got the builder nailed down (not literally - that would be cruel - although justifiable in some cases) we want to order the flexi liner and insulation - and want to use Chimwrap (it's been recommended on site by Andrew Bodenham and others)

Problem is that it's silly season and the main online companies (stovesonline and the flue factory etc)are sold out, awaiting shipment - Has anyone got some knocking about in their shed that they were going to use next year - or perhaps you were walking past an old fashioned stove shop and noticed that they do insulation

Any distance from us is fine (we're near Kirkby lonsdale, Lancs) -

And I dont want Rockwool sleeve particularly - unless anyone can specifically recommend it

it appears the shortage is genuine - so will either have to sneak round Andrew Bodenhams place and remove his chimney liner - December the 24th could be a good time (HO HO HO ) - or we might use rockwool sleeves OH has gone off to builders merchants to see if they've got any chimwrap 1st though.

Anyone know what is difference between 316 grade flexi liner and 914 grade flexi liner - is 914 physically thicker and sturdier than the 316 - it claims to be capable of withstanding higher temperatures so perhaps for a more commercial situation? -

Is there any merit in buying a stronger grade liner and effectively under using it ? - my (blonde/Girl/Friday) thinking is that this should result in an even longer lifespan ?

DON'T say "willy-nilly" to Penners, that is just asking for trouble...

316 and 914 are different grades of stainless steel; I don't believe there is a physical difference in the liner construction. All the info I found suggested that 914 (which is more 'stainless' i.e. corrosion resistant) is only required for multifuel stoves burning smokeless fuels. I've seen 20 year guarantees for 914 liners but never more than 10 years for 316 ones. However, looking at the guarantee conditions, I don't know how any claim would work because of the difficulty (impossibility?) of proving that you've only ever burned the 'correct' types of fuel and that any wood was always properly seasoned.

Anyway, I chose 316 in the end. Perhaps we should have a follow-up in 10 years time.
