Although your quoted 'perversity' law will almost certainly mean I won't need the spare bearing I bought, it doesn't cover the likelihood that should I need it in the future it will have been lost somewhere among all the other 'useful bits' so I'll have to buy another one anyway - after which the 'spare' will turn up again.

And the bleedin' washing machine filled with water again Friday and didn't pump it out. No idea this time why. Took apart but nothing. Working OK now.

Have investigated a new one, looking at a Miele but the washing times of new machines are ludicrous.

PS NT - have no idea what is wrong with fridge - it used to make a lot of noise then just stopped.

It's too heavy to move to investigate so it gets used as a mouse proof cupboard now.

i wouldnt be without my trusty spong mincer. dont know how old it is, but it wont fit on the edges of the modern kitchen we got with the house, so i have to empty the cupboard and sit on the floor to use it!

I have a green enamel one - sits on a shelf in the pantry.

I have a pretty vintage Kenwood Chef - which every time I get it out to use I cross my fingers and pray, but it plods on like an old workhorse, cake making is such a pleasure!

Presumably youve got access to the thermostat, in which case some resistance measurement could be made. Theres a fairly good chance it may be repairable from there alone, eg if the stat contacts are burnt.

If it ever comes out, sealed compressors are replaceable and R12 can be refilled with either propane or butane, I forget which, plus there are modern replacement refrigerant blends.
