Looks great, the frame looked relatively chunky when all-white, now with the beading picked out in white it looks slender and architectural.

What started out as a medium-sized job anyway has just developed into a proper stinker of a job, due to the whole thing being massively out-of-square - every decision is a compromise and everything has to be made to fit..........

An element of compromise is required if I want to retain the original sashes

Having read a quite well-reasoned american woodworking article on the folly of small paned windows (based upon there being too many joints and pieces of wood shrinking in different directions to keep the whole thing water/windproof) I reckon that any sashes well enough made to have avoided this problem are well worth hanging on to.
Also, making the boxes , rather than the sashes, is a technically less challenging job.

Your standards are slipping Penners - that snappy response took you three months......

Anyway, lovely job PP, you put me to shame. I got the essential structural stuff done on my bay then got distracted, went on holiday, bought a motorhome, spent ages sorting that out (still not completely done), spent time taking the family away in it, and generally neglected poor old Feltwell Towers for a while.

Still, the house will wait, spending decent time with the kids whilst the weather is good is always worth it. And winter must be the perfect time to restore windows, honest......... :?

Actually it's not so much the reaction that's faulty, but the eyesight. Cataract operation next month - yippee!

Your green is identical to the 19thC green found here and in our London place - Very suitable and of the period!

Yes, very authentic. Hopefully not authentically toxic! Green dyes were made with arsenic, and used in the manufacture of paints, clothes and wallpaper, resulting in a significant number of deaths!

The old traditions are the best, eh?!
