Many thanks for comments, I've arrived at a decision.......the second & third floors are clad internally with 1/2'' thick fibre board with a 1/2'' cavity. The wattle & daub is set between the oak frame and is no more than two inches thick. There is no outside cladding. I think removing the internal fibre board cladding would skyrocket the heating bills. However in the main living room downstairs the wattle and daub is between 5'' & 7'' thick and only two walls are external. The wood frame looks great and I'm inclined to carry on removing the internal cladding and exposing fine 8'' frame supports despite the loss of insulation.
