When we sold our last-but-one house, the people who bought it said that, most of all, they had fallen in love with the kitchen. And the agent told us that the kitchen was what really clinched the sale. "The buyers couldn't stop talking about it", he told us.

Within weeks of our moving out, friends in the village reported to us that the kitchen units had been ripped out and a complete new set fitted. Our units were just three years old.

There's nowt so queer as folk. :?

I agree completely. When we re-mortgaged 2 years ago (to 0.75% above base Nice while the interest rates stay low at least!) they didn't even bother to come inside - they apparently value the house "from the kerbside" - at that was for a 50% mortgage. I'm not even convinced they actually visited, I wouldn't be surprised if they used Google Streetview.

All they are interested in is if they will they get their money back if they have to re-possess. With a low percentage of the property value being re-mortgaged the chances are the plot alone is worth more than the value they are covering. If you're asking for a higher percentage then I expect they would be more rigorous.

Well done, we got .89% above base, but are restricted on lenders with self certification, not being wage earners!!!
Again we were only after 40%, but we did have a chap come and spend an hour and a bit looking over the place and did a fairly comprehensive report.
With no kitchen, no kitchen ceiling, no bedroom, no bedroom floor and no bedroom ceiling we still managed to gain a few ten's of thousands on our purchase price of 4 years ago.... maybe it was due to the extra 1/3 acre garden we'd bought

Yes, I've seen them sold spatchcocked on a cross of skewers, never had the courage to try it, even though my head suggests that a well-roasted corn-fed rural rat is potentially no worse than a dung-heap fed chicken!

Funny how logical thinking doesn't always work. The rats here do look rather nice, they have soft brown slightly fluffy fur, they're about a foot long, and they're plump. Their main diet has been grain- my grain. And yet who preys on an adult rat? No-one, as far as I can see.

Spatchcocked rat does not sound like an appealing dish. Is that what they eat in ultima thule?

In Singapore and other tropical places the pythons that live in the storm drains do. They occasionally take a domestic pet as well, even in the central areas. I have never seen one though!

The spatchcocked rats that I have seen in the tropics look better than the unidentifiable-meat-on-a-stick you can buy deep frozen as "party food" (from Iceland which is well beyond ultima Thule!) And nutiritionally better than the local delicacy of deep fried mars bar (which in truth is only bought by the tourists!) or this latest offering from KFC.
