My bathroom window problem

Presumably the historic graffiti by the door has been suitably preserved? Some of those pictures are scary. Was there a danger that large sections would collapse? Also, what was the hole in the ground outside?

All graffiti removed, that hole was where we were digging backfill out in front of the cellar doors.

Scary only to the meek!! It never scared me, I often wondered how I would get to the end but here we are in no problems.

A hundred years later, you appear to have half the floorplan in a Somerset merchant's house. Just wondered.

I guess there were certain formulas with floor plans.

That is a far more grand house than this, all that ornate plaster and the roof construction .

But this was built for the owner not to live in but to be tennented, probably quite a difference.

Must go and visit, looks a splendid repair job.

It's (including the usually God-awful walkman tour) the best presentation of a historic house (and its repair) that I know of in the UK, especially when you consider that it wasn't lived in by the family (tenanted, in fact - divided up - since about 1730) for the last 300 years. And Conwy as a whole is a complete delight, if you were brought up on Enid Blyton.

I guess though it was built for them at their specification initially. Here its a strange mix of grand necessities but nothing to elaborate anywhere else. Of course I forgot to say the North wing was two separate tenements only knocked through during Victorian times to make it one big house. The South was the merchants bit.
