I suspect that you're going to have a huge job doing anything really effective about this, Joce. If it were mine, I think I'd be tempted to fix some kind of decorative trellising to the wall. And maybe grow some kind of potted climber up it.

That's a great idea - a nicely coloured trellis would take the eye off the wall behind. Choose something that dies back every year and the trellis could soon be taken down in winter to enable the wall to be painted.

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure you only charge the going rate, but by'eck that's a lot of money to rent a flat. London never ceases to shock me with it's expense compared to the rest of the country! While there's folks willing to pay it though........

I live in Cambridge and this sounds like a very reasonable price for such a lovely looking flat, with a garden, in a nice part of London.

It is a lot of money ( that one bed flat is worth just a little less than BC with its 4 bedrooms and 4 acres), but then again they earn a lot in London. Typically, the young couples are bringing in a 6 figure salary between them in those flats. In Grantham it's vastly cheaper but the work opportunities are minimal - the night shift at Asda is considered a scoop.

Why on earth didn't I think of a climbing plant on a trellis? A great idea - maybe another Virginia Creeper which seem to cope with the shade. Thanks Mr P!
