In today's Telegraph (Property section, page 5) there's a sizeable article about straw-bale building, and details of courses run in Dorset:

This must surely be the oldest strawbale building in the land. It should be listed.

If you reckon that 32 years is a straw bale building record, I suspect you may not be giving a great deal of encouragement to those considering a more permanent straw bale structure!

Actually, it is probably destined to be demolished very soon, along with the 35-year-old Colt house in whose garden it stands. The folk who bought my parents' house some years ago have decided to throw it away and build a new home. There's nothing structurally wrong with the house, but I suspect they don't like the dining room wallpaper.

A bit like those discerning people who buy a new Rolls Royce when the ashtrays are full in the old one.

Isn't it ironic, I could have had more than one Rolls Royce if I didn't keep filling the ashtrays in my work van.

What makes matters worse, my wife keeps the score and is forever reminding me.

I am still searching for a reply that justifies my action.

Oh no. There are several in the USA that are a century old. It's just that the English didn't seem to think to do it. To much Three Little Pigs in the formative years of budding architects.
