Hello chaps. Last thing I remember, I went out for a bottle of milk. Then it's all a blur (at least, that's what I told the court).

Came on here looking for advice on mending cast iron and was delighted to find this thread at the top of the forum - and got distracted of course reading it all.

Our problem is slightly different - a hairline crack in a cast iron drainpipe, near a collar. Water is very gently seeping out. We have some Isopon p40 (bought for very successful repairs to an old water tank after advice here). Would that do they job? Or would we be better off getting some JB Weld? And should we try to make the crack a bit bigger to get more purchase, or is it best left as it is?

Advice as ever gratefully received.

I'd open the crack out with a Dremel or similar into a V - then push the epoxy into that. For the sake of a fiver I'd get some JB Weld. That worked for me with repairing this cast iron boot from a drainpipe, 7 years on and it's held fine, even survived the "beast from the east"!
