Chocolate covered giant ants (crunchy and a bit bitter, but not too unpleasant), a wind up torch small enough to be key ring, an enormous iced biscuit in the shape of a pig...

Our two made their first attempt at 0045, followed by 0130, and 0230. We finally gave in and they came thorugh with stockings at 0555!

The sainted (and normally overworked at Christmas) Mrs P and I are having our first-ever restaurant Christmas lunch. Daughter is with her in-laws, son with his (in France), so we're spoiling ourselves. No cooking, no washing up and no house-wrecking by the grandchildren.

We've just been for a walk with the pooch on Walberswick beach, and are now relaxing by the fire before we venture into Bungay for a first-class lunch.

The Swan at Southwold :?: :?: :?: :!: I love that walk from Walberswick. We did it --the walk I mean -- in 1990 when we spent Christmas in Southwold with my Ma.

Our two made their first attempt at 0045, followed by 0130, and 0230. We finally gave in and they came thorugh with stockings at 0555!

Good Lord - we got off lightly then, 7am for both kids! They're quite young though (3 and 5) so I expect the "fun" will be in the next few years.....

Mrs F and I are shattered - up till 3am wrapping presents (disorganised, us????) - then a long drive today up a wet and roadwork-riddled M6 to see the family, before the return trip with 2 tired kids and rather uncomfortable Mrs F, who now has less than 4 weeks to go before No.3 is due to put in an appearance.... :shock:

For complex reasons we did the whole Chrissy thing on Christmas Eve - except that just as the goose was going into the oven we had a power cut. For three hours.

It was a late, but lovely, night.

Ahh, it's so nice to read about people's Christmases on Christmas Day - the tiny bit remaining when everyone is safely asleep and I can sigh that it's all over until next year, and all went smoothly... a very white, sunshiny, crunchy underfoot Christmas with the most perfect goose in my new oven. We walked around Culverthorpe Lake, overlooked by a stunning Georgian house from whose window local legend tells that a baboon fatally threw a baby, in around 1800, and consequently met his own retributive death in said lake. The event is commemorated every year in a violent local festival in which an enthusiastic local dresses in a gorilla costume and is chased around Culverthorpe until he finds himself cornered in the pub, and then all is forgiven (I think) and the normal drunkenness and debauchery can resume more calmly. But there was none of this today, just a very invitingly frozen lake, and flocks of Canada geese, and merry groups enjoying having found Lincolnshire's drink driving routes, and my own family all in a mood to spoil and be spoiled- a lovely day indeed.

We were settling down in front of the telly at half nine on Christmas Eve when a ball of ice came through the front window, which was closed at the time. Luckily for me the culprits had disappeared before I got outside. I popped next door, where a family with four teenage boys have just moved in, and asked if they had noticed anything suspicious. Half an hour later two very apologetic lads turned up to say sorry and offer to pay for any damage. Whilst I'd like to believe that this was a case of careless snowballing, the late hour, lack of snow in the road in front of the house, and the fact that they are pupils where I work suggests otherwise. Not the best build up to Christmas Day, but at least their parents were supportive.

we have a very sickly christmas... everyone had D&V... kids didnt open their presents till christmas day night... my parents who came to stay for a proper family christmas ended up in day all day christmas day.. i was bad boxing day.... so the bird was out of the question.... we are having a rerun of xmas dinner on new years day when everyone will be able to eat it!!
hope everyone had a fab time.... and i hope to be around a bit more in 2010 than i was last year.....xxx

Yuck, poor you! Our kids were generous with a stomach bug as well, but fortunately everyone succumbed either before or after Christmas Day.
