A new 6 part series has started tonight on BBC2 at 9.00pm. First one is on wood and is quite interesting, it has just shown some oak joinings in the construction of a roof. It may cover Thatching in a future programme.

Thanks for posting this Jill i actually missed it but i will record and watch next weeks as i have just been reading about thatching and find it amazing how a well maintained and reeded thatch can last as long as 80 years?. It has certainly opened my eyes as i had never thought about it in great detail before but i now find it fascinating. will look forward to watching now it is on my sky+ thank god for such things as i will be watching an opera!

I keep forgetting about bbc iplayer, In truth i don't know when i will find time to watch it i have to make an appointment to get near my laptop, desktop or tv at the moment . I wonder if i can watch it on my iphone?

I do apologise i was merely thinking aloud. Having 4 kids and a husband has its downsides sometimes, like having to make an appointment in my own home to use everything from the bathroom to TV and computers. I wouldn't mind but we have a fair few , consequently i do find the only thing no-one else wants to touch is the kettle, that is always available for my use!

Penners - Mrs P really is a lucky lady. You have clearly remembered all birthday and Christmas opportunities to furnish her with so many labour saving devices.

Following your lead, SWMBO will be getting a Makita SDS rechargeable drill tomorrow. I had a wry smile on my face as I declined the offer of a dozen roses for twenty quid in Sainsburys today. I know she'll be happier with my better value gift.

Tempted to make a crude joke about it depends on what attachments it comes with. But then I thought better of it.
