Alas, I can't find a link to a recording of Rambling Syd Rumpo performing "My Grandfather's Grunge", to the tune of Grandfather's Clock.

He'd whirl it around with a mighty boomin' sound
While my Grannie stood by in surprise
But he lost grip

This is a clock I remember my uncle and grandfather regularly rehanging the weights with catgut,when my grandmother died it passed to my father who rehung the weights on fishing line which is still on it.When he died it came to me,just before Christmas it suffered a catastrophic "dusting" accident.The screw it was hanging on was in a lime plaster over wattle and it pulled out,the clock fell to the floor and broke into many pieces.I could have claimed on the insurance,it is on the policy,it is nothing special and there are many similar ones in antique centers quite cheaply but this has family conections so I glued the case together,had new glass cut and made a new suspension spring for the pendulum.Still in the process of regulating it,just a couple of mins fast a week.It is now supported on a strip steel hook from the oak beam above!phil.

A similar thing happened to a rather valuable framed lithograph of mine by John Piper. The falling frame splintered several mahogany drawer knobs on my ex-Natural History Museum specimen cabinet and a glass shard scratched the picture. Its not too noticable fortunately, but i dont suppose its done much for its value. All the pictures in my living room now hang on chains suspended from brass rods firmly attached into solid brick or the wooden studs behind the lath and plaster.

It was bigger by half than the old man himself, and it weighed half a hundredweight more.

But, it stopped short, never to grunge again, when it's cold outside.

after a hard day in the grunge foundary, hammering their artefacts, the jolly grungemen repair to the local hostelry or fumbleshop and charge their thunderjugs with the foaming nut brown meths and then they link nadgers and let forth this stirring refrain. As follows:

Come fellows raise your fumblejugs, until your nadgers plungin'
Come raise aloft your nutbrown splod, for soon we'll all be mungin'
for tonight I'll drain the potted dry, every man shall do the same as

Having suffered a similar distressing falling-off-the-wall episode back in the 60s I can say with certainty, all my pictures are well hung.
