Low pitch, slate roof leak

Hi again,
I've swpoken with the Ondutile people. The profile of their sheeting is 38mm, it would need an extra layer of batons above and preferably a counter batton below it (for better ventalation). So it would appear to need between 2.5 to 3.5 inches which I'm hopeful I can find even if we have to plain down the rafters!

The guys in customer support were unsurprizingly confident that their product will work for me. I'll run it by a couple of roofing specialists and see what they think. Wish I'd done all this in the first place!

They have moved from "don't worry we'll keep coming back until it's fixed" to "We havn't any more ideas"
They won't contemplate anything more structural as a way of sorting the problem.

Well, to their credit, they've not abandoned you completely and at least seem to be trying to fix things. If you are still on speaking terms with them perhaps you could suggest some form of arbitration? Something along the lines of getting an experienced architect to look at the design and propose a suitable solution and the builders then implement that solution. For your part, you accept that, if built according to the new spec, then you will agree that they've fulfilled their obligation. Depending on how you feel about things you might even consider paying for the architect yourself.

It's only a suggestion, of course, because I don't really understand the history, but something like it might help with the apparent stalemate.

You could try laying the slates in a shallow lime mortar, or point them in situ with mortar to block the opportunity for water ingress. May do the trick and shouldn't change the appearance that much if done neatly..

The classic bodge?
It won't last.

there is no magic solution for a roof that doesn't have much slope!
Either a material is used that can work in such circumstances (i.e. lead, zinc or sheet material of some sort) or the slope of the roof has to be altered.
