I've been busy trying to remember how to draw, and am spending a huge amount of time standing behind an easel in life classes. Which is physically tiring (e.g. 9.00 - 4.00, with three short breaks) and mentally exhausting. So although I read the threads I'm usually quite incapable of cobbling even a short sentence together.

I hope you're enjoying your art classes. The present Mrs Penrose took it up seriously when we retired three years ago, and she loves it. I think she's quite talented, too.
Will we get to see any of your work on PPUK? Do give us a glimpse. I am particularly good at appreciating the artistic value of the nude female form.

Snirkle is a strange word. I seems to be mostly Norwegian but the translation is rather obscure.

I cannot recall drawing or painting any person without clothing who was anything other than - er - interesting. Certainly nothing to get too excited about, or was I at the wrong art school?

The other half, however, used to be a keen photographer, and reports club glamour model sessions were well attended...

I'm always glad to extend my poor command of the English language. Could you please give the dictionary definition of "snirkle"?

Despite Biff's suggestion that it has Scandinavian origins, I suspect it to be a corruption of the ancient Norman/French word "la sneurculeuse". This (as I'm sure you know) was a lowly female serf employed by Norman knights to clean up after them, during the period of history when they tried to adapt (unsuccessfully) to drinking English ale.

Where does Mrs Penrose go for her art classes? E.Anglia being such a small world, there's every chance that we've been standing behind adjacent easels for the last few months.

She doesn't go to a particular class on a regular basis. She's a member of Hadleigh art club, and she does classes from time to time in Clare (with a lady called Carole Massey) and has done a few at Flatford Mill Field Study Centre.
If you've never been there, you really should. It's a wonderful place.
