That's a very kind offer, but the house is rented out at the moment and the UK elephants are in storage :lol: You would be most welcome to visit the rest of the herd over here on the equator if you were passing. Both our English neighbours have stopped off in Singapore en route to Australia, so I never discount the possibility of offering hospitality to weary travelers. All the elephants are friendly, we just added a new one, he is destined to be a working elephant once the place making the glass tabletop get their act together, and since I like to use any excuse to post an elephant picture.....

No, no! It was the tropical pad I was volunteering to house-sit for, so that Joce could have you back in UK! Having lived ten years on the equator, this time of year I get itchy feet!

The painting is a representation of the Hindu god Ganesha, know as the 'remover of obstacles' among other appelations. As Mr P noticed he has a fondness for sweet things, and gets presented with many appropriate offerings at the temple. One of the best things to do is to buy a coconut there and smash it in the special area in front of his shrine. I discourage that at home though.

The piece on top of the chest is a Japanese Meiji era bronze incense burner, we bought it in Hong Kong, but the dealer had acquired it in Seattle, and we then took it back to Tokyo and now on to Singapore. He doesn't like moving though and made this abundantly clear when I unpacked him. I was being careful to lift properly ( he's heavy ), didn't want to end up with a bad back, and impaled my leg on his tusks, he was unrepentant.

I'm sure he would, he was responsible for removing Ganesha's original ( human ) head, and Ganesha was his son! To be fair the story goes that Shiva was grumpy and didn't recognize him as he had last seen him as a small child, but even so head lopping was a slight over reaction. Mum was not happy.
