Not quite. The church here is insured, like most in the UK, with Ecclesiastical Insurance who take a different view of percentages. I was told that we had 75% insurance cover (of the cost for a total rebuild) and asked why it wasn't 100%. The answer (AIUI) is that they know (from their experience) that in the event of a fire, they will NOT be demolishing the remains of 900 year old Grade I listed limestone building, but that there would be a substantial part left to help the rebuild. In the same way, if you have an unlisted church which is almost redundant, then 25% insurance is adequate to demolish and make good the site, as you won't be rebuilding (I forget what 50% gets you); however, if you have a newish church in brick then you probably need 100%. And not only Home insurance, but all the Property insurance classes of which I'm aware. If they deem you to be underinsured, they'll knock down the claim proportionately.
