Linseed paint in restoration

Can anybody help

i am removing old paint from sandstone cills i have used nitromors to remove the top layer but as it is porous the only way i can see to remove it completely from the sandstone is rubbing it with another piece of sandstone and keeping it wet

is there a better solution as i am totally aching

Sounds very grim - Not sure if this might help or not but the linseed people at Holkham have suggested it can be used on other materials - I only mention this as I have found that the linseed oil they have given me when applied to areas on my wooden window frames I've found difficult to strip seem to soften the paint so its easier to remove!

Alternatively you could call them up and see what they say - they're very helpful.

There is also the company that makes 'Klingstrip' who are pretty good about guidance on which of their products will get paint off almost anything you could try them (sorry Can't remember their name but they'll be under Klingstrip on the web!)

The other regular and more experienced dwellers on this site may have better ideas tho' (they usually come up with something) and so far I haven't found their advice to be wrong.

As Lizzy has suggested, Klingstrip might be the answer for you. However, I suggest you don't just order some in the hope. Give Strippers a call and discuss which of their formulations is likely to be best for your particular situation, then buy a test pot to try it before you buy sufficient for the whole job.
