Apart from one fitted wardrobe, everything I've seen is solid wood, mostly oak :?

OK, I take back the MDF comment having now looked at all of the site. I initially had only looked at the Radiator covers (MDF), fitted furniture (MDF) and beds (wood) which had biased me somewhat. The rest of the site doesn't mention MDF as far as I can see.biffvernon said:

Thanks to all those with too much time on their hands to complain about the red and green on our website. This has been changed.
No thanks to those who feel it worth while to post flippant remarks about the colours of our paints, especially without any knowledge of how we mix the colours. Given that a paint colour may have five different coloured pigments in the linseed oil suspension, and that pigments do not dissolve and have different densities depending on their composition (they can vary by over 100 per cent), the same batch of paint can vary slightly in colour almost from brush stroke to brush stroke. If you wish to avoid some of these problems, you may have your colour range reduced. But then you could always talk to me and hear some suggestions. Or just go buy Dulux.
It doesn't surprise me that colour would be the topic that would attract attention. I can never quite believe that customers will ask me about timber in terms of colour rather than species. And matching the paint colours as best I can for the customer is the single greatest headache in the process. And I often spend hours, maybe four or five, trying to get it right - hours I don't charge for.
And finally, cabinet making.
We build mostly in oak. Radiator covers we don't build in oak because, surprise, surprise, IT WARPS. If people want beautiful and painted wardrobes, we use MDF because, surprise, surprise, IT IS CHEAP and our customers don't want to pay for timber. If we are asked for an oak bookcase, we give the price of solid oak and of oak-faced MDF with lots of real oak for skirtings and fore edges. The customer decides, not us, which they can afford and what we ultimately build. We don't build doors or staircases in MDF, we use oak and Douglas fir. We don't build porches or garden studios in MDF, we use pine and larch. We build beds in oak, we build sideboards in oak, we build mirror frames in oak, we build tables in oak, not MDF. As we have been selected for inclusion in Betty Norbury's furniture exhibition in Cheltenham (third week in August), I think we can safely say that our furniture is pretty damn good.

Wow, I think a nerve was hit.
I re-read the posts on this thread and I think the tone was very friendly and receptive, really. Except for comments about the red/green type on the website, I don't see anything to get one's back up, and those are, I'm sorry to say, justified.
I don't understand the comments about the wood and radiator covers. Maybe that's on another thread.

OK - one or two people mentioned that the red-on-green text on your paint website was difficult to read (presumably valid, since you've decided to change it). But in general you seem to have generated a lot of very positive and complimentary comment.

Well it was me that made the statement about the MDF as I looked at three pages from the site at random and found two of them mentioning MDF. Ross, please stick around. I made a mistake in my original post and I'm more than willing to admit this (and did so before you posted). We all have different skills here and can help each other out when needed.
One of my skills is in web design so I guess I comment more than I should when I see a site that has problems. PM me if you would like more details. You say you have changed the red and green text. It still seems to be there when I look at it http://www.linseedpaintcompany.co.uk/.
