To be honest, neither do we very much. The irony is that, despite owning our house outright - something the original Victorian occupants would never had done - we spend most of our time in what would have been the servants' quarters.
If the distinction beteen the main and the tradesmen's entrances has all but disappeared in domestic dwellings, it is alive and well at the workplace. Most office buildings have a main entrance jealously guarded by modern day footmen (security guards and receptionists) who shoo away the tradesmen; they are expected to enter via the loading bay. Inside the building the servants' staircase has been replaced by the goods lift.
