Now everyone please sit down, take a deep breath and read the whole post before casting me to the burning fires of damnation!
The original access to our understair storage is through a ledge door in the kitchen, at some point this has been partitioned off and tured into a larder - A further access to the under stairs being added in the dining room.
The new door is a very rough temporary affair (probably temporary 50 years ago and never attended to). I have acquired the ledge door from the house next door and want to use this replace the rough old door in the dining room.
This will require reducing it by one plank in width and cutting it down to 2/3rds the size. My question is this...... is there an easy technique to lever the ledges off so that they can be repositioned? (eyes in your direction Biff). And what fixings to use to re-attach them.
I have resisted the temptation to go at it with a hammer and a chisel until I know how to do it with the minimum of damage.
Now I can hear howls of protest about destroying the old door! In my defence, one end of the door (the portion to be removed) is very badly damaged and has been hacked about at - it is also riddled with woodworm holes. The door when I rescued it has been ripped off by the kitchen fitters and was being used across two saw horse as a work bench and was about to be attacked with a circlular saw!
So, if I am excused?? Any ideas how to tackle the ledges?
