To update....had a visit from my friendly CO this morning :wink:

We had a good chat not only about the current section destroyed by the tree which needs recontructing, but a good discussion about the wall overall and a much longer term view on the work required.

Refreshing to have a discussion that was both practical, but also good advice....and sensitive to the harsh economic realities of owning a listed building.

Will keep you updated on progress.

Hooray!

We finally got our LBC for the reconstruction of our wall (which was demolished by a tree in January). We have also had the first cheque from the insurers!

As advised by people here (and by the CO), we have visited two previous customers of our chosen contractors. We are also required by the LBC to erect a sample panel for inspection & approval before progressing the work any further.

As per my earlier note, we have also submitted a second application for LBC to undertake further works to the wall. Means the loss of an ugly, modern (but useful) tool shed...but the end result will be a considerable improvement. Probably also means that any thoughts of a holiday later in the year have to go on the back-burner....the second phase of work won't be paid for by the insurers. Just need to keep my fingers crossed for some dry weather now

In view of the ghastly unpredictable summer we've been having, might it be an idea to postpone the wall until next year and make to with a cheapo fence to keep the children safe in the interim?

Nooo - it's going to be lovely from now on - please say it will ...

One good thing about all this rain, we have a bumper crop of spuds, although our 'new' ones are baking pot size.
