It must be covered somewhere in the forum, but I haven’t found it, so … I’ve been looking into the feasibility of laying wooden floorboards over the (uneven) concrete floors throughout the downstairs. We have low ceilings so can’t install joists. Having scoured the web for similar stories I find advice which says that it’s possible to have a floating floor laid on top of some sort of membrane, or alternatively, to fix battens to the floor and nail the boards on top of those.
In either of the above cases – assuming the advice is good - presumably some sort of breathable membrane would be necessary to avoid damp, but would the lack of an air-gap create problems? And if I'm correct about the membrane, what types are available? (House unlisted, btw).
