Laying Floorboards

There does seem to be something perverse about gluing floorboards to concrete.

John reckons that the battens were rawlplugged and screwed into the concrete. We've had a really good look at the boards (bog-standard t&g) and we can't see any sign of fixings, so presumable they were invisibly nailed to the battens.

I'm too intending to fit floorboards but mine will be to new limecrete floors. I've left the limecrete as installed (i.e. without screed) and intend fixing CLS (or similar sized timber - once I've know what levels I need) to the floor with a few frame fixings. The limecrete slab is 150mm so I've got plenty of depth for the fixings. To avoid any damp affecting the timbers I've got a large roll of DPM which I'll staple to the timber before fixing. I'm intending creating a frame around the perimeter of the walls and then 'joists' in between.

Of course that's all in the future.... it all sounds so straightforward when it's written down but as you all know it will involve chipping, hacking, broken drill bits, expletives, etc. but hopefully it will all be worth it.

There was a time when one's bank manager could be trusted to give advice and guidance for the benefit of the customer. In my experience, regretably, those days are gone.

Nowadays they're just salesmen/women.

Some such salespersons flog you double-glazing. Bank managers flog you money.
