Laying a flagstone floor - how?

Strangely Ivor - we are having Humpty Dumpty on the back wall and Straw on the others [I am painting a sixteenth century mural on one wall too].

I had thought about three coats with different levels of dilution to build up layers. The full strength Earthborn is very thick indeed.

Like the idea of covering the flag with plastic to stop evaporation - though I have a feeling the weather is awful for the next week or so so might not need it.

It is thick, but even so, I've rarely managed to get away with just the one coat it is capable of... Dilution is sensible to get an even finish without excess waste.

I put on three coats. Undiluted, it was such hard work on my rough plaster, that I also diluted the 2nd & 3rd coats about 20%. Easier to apply three diluted coats than one diluted and one not.
Dunno what colour you're using - we went for an ochreish colour bizarrely named Humpty Dumpty - but before you go too far, check that you're happy with the colour of the dried paint in both daylight and artificial light. Be annoying to have to repaint the whole room.
How do I know that.

We got sent a tin of humpty dumpty by accident (mislabelling problem at the factory..). Good job the decorator checked before completing the job - he described it as like "smearing baby poo on the wall" :twisted: . On the plus side, they sent us a replacement tin, and the decorator managed to mix it with white to make a quite pleasing lemony yellow for two rooms. A little goes a long way !

When we did our current place in Earthborn clay paint, first coat was well watered down (no idea, 20-30%) and second coat was maybe 10 or 15% watered - that was enough for good coverage for us on bare gypsum. We put it on with paint pads which may make a difference - no experience of how it behaves with a brush or roller - however it's devilishly thick. Once watered down you could paint with it, whereas undiluted you were kind of smearing it

You'll need a really short pile, high quality soft roller to give a smooth finish. Longer pile can leave a stippled pattern once it dries due to the variance of paint depth. Brushes equally, can leave stripes if they're not soft natural bristle.

I did a small section of wall behind where the radiator is going - first coat was fifty/fifty, second coat about seventy percent paint thirty water, and a third coat of around eighty-five to fifteen. It seems to have worked well. This was in straw and it has come out the same colour as the small bit of gypsum we have on the infill between beams. So fairly pleased.
