Yes the gate's sort of in a corner - the sheep farmers showed me how to use hurdles but I thought that might be unnecessary as surely you can sneak up at night and trim hooves etc - as I do with the chickens?

Turn a sheep over on to its bum (or sit it in a deck chair) and you can do anything* to it, as it will just sit there...

Can sheep put a deckchair up ? :shock: I always worry about squashing my finger but then sheep don't have fingers do they. The sheep in South Wales seem quite happy to lay on grass. It must be a North Wales thing :?

A Cath K deck chair for the sheepikins, perfect! :lol: It can go outside the little house I'm planning for them - not keen on this standing up in the dark stuff they seem to do, they need to learn how to go to bed properly like the chickens do, and have their curtains closed and door locked against Mr Fox.

Bit worried about 'Marm's posting. Not sure I can get Chris to help - at the moment he's just saying can't we pay a man to come and trim, dag shave and medicate them. Wonder if there's a lovely local Mellors type character who would sell his services to us?

P.S. Have you thought about those lovely teak steamer chairs ? I think they would last much longer than deckchairs.

Joce, I'd think carefully about shutting them up at night. The more you confine them unnaturally, the greater the work and risk you are creating in terms of hygiene, disease and stress.

The fox is no risk to grown sheep, And only really a risk to newborns.

I'd leave them outside as nature intended. it's why they have fluffy wooly coats. Imagine being inside trying to sleep in wooly pjs and a duffel coat? :shock:

We had that letter too. We have three acres but dont have any animals other than the chickens (5) It was very hard reading and I wasnt much wiser after reading it. I came to the conclusion that it was for Farmers and what they used as fertilizer so of no concern to us.
