Knob advice

Roughly ow much are these knobs without the trade discount?
My builder got some nice knobs which are too big and the new lobby door really needs smaller diam ones too. (Modern locks must be nearer the edge of the door than the old ones as I never scraped my knuckles when opening the old door - OK the old door didn't fit and the old lock didn't lock then)
I like the wood effect ones as there are some like that in the house.
There are some like the beehive ones too - but mine are, I am 99% sure, plastic.
It's one of the lovely things about an old house - there is no consistant style eg knobs have been changed as they got damaged or fashion changed.

[Apologies to the pc lot - I am aware that such Latin abbreviations eg. "eg" are to be banned as some people can't understand them - apparently there is a fear that "eg" will be mistaken for "egg".]

If you're scraping your knuckles because your door-handle is too close to the edge of the door, you can use a longer barrel-latch to take the handle farther from the edge. 75mm is recommended as a knuckle-saving distance.

Checked the link - sounds like it is another symptom of the chaps doing the work not understanding that old buildings aren't modern ones and so don't have modern door handles. :evil:
Unfortunately the lock has been fitted into a brand new door so will have to stay - a smaller diameter set of knobs will be acquired though.

[Young tradesmen! :evil: My builder obviously didn't understand the concept of a splayed side on a small corner window in a three brick thick wall and the concept of a door step to allow room for a door mat went right over his head - and before you suggest it, I don't want a mat well. A new builder will be contacted to redo that part of the job. And a gas fire man had never "seen anything like that before" when he saw the removable fire grate of the sort still available in hardware stores and which were ubiquitous until at least the 60s]

I ordered the 8 door knob sets. They look and feel good.
They don't look like original, naturally aged ones, but they do look exactly like some of the repro ones in architectural salvage shops that sell for £30 - £40.
So I'm happy.

I thought that a lot of the 'brass' items coming in from China are made from squashed down mobile phones and other bits of tin, then coated to look like brass.
