Modern life does tend to revolve around the kitchen, but I blame this on the general lack of staff these days. I'd much prefer to live in a house where I barely knew where the kitchen actually was, but barring a major win on the national lottery I can't see that ever happening.
But we do have bell-pushes in most rooms connected to a lovely old annunciator board, so we have the infrastructure in place just in case.
Having said that, since the new year, I've taken up baking bread and have been spending far too long in the kitchen. I've also discovered yet another reason why self-sufficiency hasn't caught on in a big way. I've long known that keeping hens is far more time-consuming and expensive than simply buying eggs and I'm now realising that bread making is much the same.
