Kid proof paint

I'm looking for a tough breatrhable paint that will stand up to a 7 and 5 year old. I've not used limewash as yet, but I gather it can rub off easily and is not really wipeable. I'm not expecting breathable products to stand up to misuse as much as a 'plastic' emulsion, but does anyone have any tips concerning paint that will at least offer a bit of resistance to abouse and to cleraning?

In my experience (I had the same age mix many yrs ago) you'll be lucky if you can find a house that can stand up to them!

I dont have anything to suggest, maybe modern paint would be a reasonable option for the lower part of the wall. Its not the devil incarnate after all, just has its downside.

Children do eventually grow up (they do - honest!), so any defensive measures need only be temporary.
Why not line the walls with heavy-duty paper and then paint with something tough and plastic. When you feel the dangerous years are a thing of the past, you can simply peel it all off and limewash to your heart's content.

The advantage of limewash is that you assume to repaint it every spring so the grubby finger marks and explorations with the felt tips get washed away by the tide.

In my book that would be the major disadvantage of limewash. Forth Bridges, and all that....

OK tumbledown, you've been very patient with us. Here's the answer to your original quest for a kid proof paint. It is specifically designed for the kindergarten.
Aglaia Natural Paints
The PDF of technical information for the 'Natural Resin Wall Paint' says:

Ranges of Application:
For indoor use in living and business areas, schools and
kindergardens on all coatable walls and ceilings. Also
for high humidity and hight traffic rooms.

Not quite sure what a hight traffic room is but you can get the paint from Womersleys and elsewhere.

Does natural resin of some kind have any advantage over modern paints? Resins are not usually breathable afaik. This paint will have higher embodied manufacturing energy than the standard modern paints, so I'm mildly surprised to see Biff recommending it.

Oh, where to begin. I've just got back from a one day paint course at Womersley's so I am now the world's expert on natural paint. And I've got a plastic laminated certificate to prove it. I've also got a very fat folder of techie info from Beeck, the makers of Aglaia Paints.

The paints with resins are more hard-wearing (kid-resistant) and very slightly less breathable than without the resin but still much much more breathable that modern plastic emulsion paints. The embodied energy will be much lower (not that there is a great deal of embodied energy in any paint film), the materials are sustainably produced from a renewable resource, there are no toxic waste products and at the end of its life it makes compost instead of hazardous waste.

I promise I will never recommend that anybody use a petrochemical derived paint again.
