Jobs we hate.....

Have spent most of today going around the house and outbuildings removing beech casings from the gutters. Horrible job, lots of ladder moving, it was raining as well it was such a horrible job, I almost rejoiced when my boys demanded a game of Monopoly!

What jobs do you all doing?

I hate cleaning the moss of the stable roofs. They're asbestos sheeting and if we don't keep them clear, the moss holds the rain and then it seeps through. Of course, it's one of those jobs that you only find out needs doing when it's a bit late :roll:

Completing my tax return, filing, tidying up and cleaning tools after a tiring spell of decorating or plastering.

Spray it on all surfaces, rub lightly with sponge, rinse off.... when dry, all white smear and deposit has gone.

Absolute top of the list of hates is repainting window frames. All that bl@@dy scraping, sanding, putty repairing and general preparation, followed by the tedious business of c-a-r-e-f-u-l-l-y cutting in along all the glazing bars. Then your elbow gives an involuntary twitch and you have to clean off a splodge of paint on the glass, which mucks up the whole job for several inches around the area.

It's a nightmare. :evil:

My father (a diy phobic) developed a simple system for window painting. He didn't even try to cut in - the tidy bit was done the next day with one of those stanley scraper things.

I wish I could moan about window frame painting, it would mean that I didn't live in a cottage with UPVC windows, that looks dreadful with limewashed stone walls.

I hate ironing.

Painting windows would be high on my list as well.

I'm also a recent convert to disliking doing anything requiring ladders. I put this down to a couple of years of roof work on scaffolding, which makes those tedious tasks such as cleaning and repairing gutters almost a joy. If only scaffolding wasn't so expensive and intrusive.

Otherwise, I find it immensely satisfying to see the gradual improvement that each job brings, which overcomes even the dislike of painting windows.

I am getting a bit fed up with having to keep fixing the mower though. It broke again last week (a pully bearing and shaft on the cutting deck) and I was so hoping that I'd get through the rest of the year without more repairs. :evil:

That's an easy one.

Firstly, like FW, the one required to pay the mortgage each month.

Secondly, clearing blocked / repairing / practically anything to do with drains. Uck.

Our former neighbours were a large Asian family who did a lot of Indian cooking. A lovely family, but I do suspect they put a lot of fat down the drain, as I had to clear their kitchen drain - which crosses and floods my land if blocked - several times. The smell of rotting congealed fat mixed with residues of spices is not one I would wish on anyone. Since they moved out I've not had a problem.

Cutting down a hawthorn tree, 12 feet high with lethal spikes. It also has stems of blackberry in/over it which must be over 3 cm in diameter, and some of them are already dead and dried out. You only have to go within two feet of it and something grabs your clothing or inflicts a puncture wound. :x

What a great idea,I mean that! a straight edge and a scraper would give a far better result than my last attempt,and it will all need doing again in the spring,thanks,phil.

The flippin' recoil starter cord broke the other day. What a fiddly, frustrating job!
