Did you just hammer in the wood fibre fixings or did you drill a pilot hole first?

Drilled then hammered. It's not great to drill into as the bit tends to wander but you get used to it after the first few. Some of the fixings ended up on the wonk but as they sink into the wood fibre it's not noticeable once plastered

I got some wood fibre board waiting to go up but never got round to it yet. I had considered drilling first although it never actually mentions it in any of the instructions, I think you're just meant to hammer those long nail fixings in to the wall, but I haven't got round to seeing how easily they'd enter a soft red.

I left the plumber to it as the pipe work needed to be moved away from the wall and this was probably a mistake. He screwed right through using really long (160mm) metal screws and wooden stand off at the top to account for the thick skirting. This obviously introduces thermal bridging so I may need to rectify but we wanted it finished. Bit of a compromise I guess.

Its a shame you didn't have feet to go with that column radiator, all thats required then is a single fixing for a safety brace which can be any length from the wall. This is something I had investigated many months ago but completely forgotten about, I think there may be special raw plug type wall fixings to help maintain the integrity of the insulation.

We are putting ours up this week, we are drilling first then inserting the rawplug and hammer the nails. The rawplug is plastic so quite tricky to hammer in place without drilling. Once you do a couple it becomes quick and straightforward. Where it takes ages is around service entries that you have to adjust the woodfibre accordingly. Most guides have very little info on what to do with the service entries so we kind of try to do what feels as the most sensible thing!

I did look into the feet but the radiator would have been too high to fit under the windowsill. In hindsight, a smaller rad would probably have been better but this one was cheap locally.
