I think it is interesting that as a passionate Italian chap you liked the story about an extrovert and strong-willed wife, whilst being a thoroughbred Englishman, I loved the Frankfurt at night war story!!

I could relate to the lost flying student reporting his last known position as being on the runway prior to take-off. Many years a go I decided to take flying lessons and was amazed how much concentration it took, during the early stages anyway. I remember one lesson where I took off and began a right-hand turn whereupon my mind went blank and I couldn't remember the runway number I had just taken off from (the number being the runway compass heading), so I couldn't work out when I had completed the turn, plus I was carefully monitoring the airspeed and vertical climb rate, so I lost track of the airfield and within a few minutes was completely lost. Fortunately, I was with an instructor!

But I never forgot that lesson and when I made my first solo flight I made very sure that I hardly took my eyes off the airfield and was therefore able to complete the circuit without getting lost again. It was only a 15 minute flight but I was exhausted from the sheer concentration of it when I arrived back at the stand.

Poor Berlusconi, he is the houdini of politics, I also think he should be made a saint, as it was nothing short of a miracle that he survived. Let's face it only an Italian head of state could get away with it. There are no candidates with his track record that can compete for votes

I was living in Verona in the early 90s, during a time when there was a general election*. What is surprising is that many of the key players from then (Berlusconi, Fini, Bossi, etc) are still key players today.

* although lets face it, spend a long weekend in Italy and you've a fair chance of it coinciding with a general election! :lol:

I have to say guys , periodically the way the brogue on ppuk takes an anomalistic circumlocution to the more peregrine diction can sometimes discombobulate me as well as impel me to exogitate which can be vexatious at times as i am not the most perspicacious mortal in the macrocosm..
As Middi points out , some of us are not very sesquippedalian.
