To my shame, I find that the Kit-Kat addiction transcends the pricks of conscience.

I find it so difficult to try and keep track of all the things we are supposed to not eat/ do/ use/ say........... whatever. Within reason I do my best, but there's always somebody with a view that you are doing something bad. I even had a lady take issue with me for saying that whilst I would have loved a pair of seal skin boots ( aesthetically ) I felt that the image of little furry things being clubbed would haunt me. She had apparently spent some time working with Inuit people and I got a lecture on traditional hunting and the preservation of native cuture. I didn't like to point out that I felt there was probably only a tenuous connection to very expensive things in a Japanese department store.

Indeed. And using our PCs (and all our other electronic gadgets) to campaign against one 'bad thing' just exacerbates another. Modern life eh?

I had a similar conversation a few years ago with some Danish friends regarding whales in the Faroe Islands (regarding the killing, I don't have any desire to wear whale blubber :lol: ). It did actually make me rethink my complete "anti" stance on all whaling, but I agree there's a difference between a village taking a few from the herd and large scale commercial killing. I'm glad I'm not the only one who wrestles between the aesthetics of real fur and the ethics of killing cute animals for it :? . But the ethics always win in the end.

If you want guilt free fur then I suggest a trip to New Zealand to get something made from possum. They are an introduced species and considered a complete pest because they destroy the native fauna and flora. Of course in Australia they love them and some species are rare or endangered. I can't understand why they don't collaborate on a possum repatriation project so everyone would be happy. I came close to buying a dyed pink possum fur jacket
